Why create a podcast getting to know your team members?

Boost company culture by launching a podcast centered around getting to know your team members! This is a critical part of building a tight-knit environment, especially for deskless and remote teams.

Format: Q&A, Roundtable

Episode length: Short-form: 10 minutes, Long-form: 20-30 minutes

Get to know a team member episode template

This episode will take a four-part structure, with questions relating to different parts of someone’s professional and personal life. Try to come up with your questions and write them out under each section before recording.

Introduction

Hi there. Welcome to [Series Name], I’m [name] and we’re here today talking to [guest name(s)] to learn a little bit more about their experience at [company name]

Introduction boosts

  • Date of the episode
  • If part of a greater series, what the series is about
  • Background on the guest

First section: Who is the guest?

Discuss how this person made their way to your company. This is a great opportunity to introduce your colleague and give your audience background information to better understand their story before diving deeper into their profile.

Examples of questions to ask

  • Tell me more about where you were working before and what motivated you to join [company name]
  • What were you most excited about when you joined [company name]?
  • What was the hardest part of your interview process?

Second section: What does this person do on our team?

Discuss the importance of your interviewee to your team. Why should someone care about the work this person does?

Transition sentence example from sections one to two: I want to dive deeper into your awesome contributions to the team.

Examples of questions to ask

  • Can you describe what your day-to-day looks like at [company name]?
  • What are the most important projects you are working on?
  • What should someone who doesn’t collaborate with you understand about your work?
  • In what ways do you feel that your work impacts the organization?
  • What has been your biggest win during your time working here?

Third section: What is this person like outside of work?

Give your listeners a better feel of their co-worker on a personal level. What gets this person energized when they’re not at work?

Transition sentence example from sections two to three: Now that we’ve gotten to know more about you inside of work, I know we’d all like to hear more about what you do in your free time. To start us off…

Examples of questions to ask

  • What’s one thing you’re really passionate about right now?
  • Where would you like to go on your next vacation?
  • What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
  • What was the last thing that made you laugh uncontrollably?

Fourth section: Parting thoughts

What takeaways do you want someone to get from listening to this person’s story? This is a great way to tie a bow on the episode. 

Transition sentence example from sections three to four: Thanks for being a guest on the show and sharing your story. Before we end, I want to ask you one last question

Examples of questions to ask 

  • What’s the one thing that you hope never changes about [company name]?
  • What’s one piece of advice you have for new hires?
  • What are you most excited about in the next 12 months at [company name]?
